Birch Wood Special School Local CPDL Offer-Training and Events Autumn Term

EQUALS Twilight CPD at Birch Wood School Wednesday 23rd October 4.00- 6.30 pm

Semi-Formal (SLD/MLD) Curriculum by Peter Imray

High Quality Local Training from only £19

With the Rochford Review confirming that ‘schools already have the freedom to use any curriculum they feel is appropriate for the needs and requirements of…… pupils’ who are not engaged in ‘subject specific learning’, we seek to explore

  • What does subject specific learning mean?
  • Who might be involved in subject specific learning and who might not?
  • What kind of curriculum makes sense for learners with SLD who will only ever be able to succeed (at the very best) up to the very beginnings of the National Curriculum?
  • What kind of curriculum model can enable those with SLD to be the very best that they can be and to do the very best that they can do, irrespective of their level of learning difficulty?

We seem to be in a position of much greater flexibility than we have been for a very long time which makes for extremely exciting and interesting times in curriculum development!

Through the movement experienced on the trampoline, students develop key skills, including gross motor skills, independence, relationships, awareness, communication, cognition, perception and enjoyment. It also allows participants to work on specific medical conditions.

The training cost £240 per person for 2 full days from 8.45 to 3.45 and takes place at Birch Wood School, Grange Drive Melton Mowbray LE13 1HA.

This will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Colourful SemanticsWednesday 27th February 2019 4pm -6pm

Led by EYFS SLE Natalie

Following the November EYFS Network at Birch Wood during which we explored speech and language in our settings, we are now able to offer a taster session for Colourful Semantics.

Colourful Semantics is the 'meaning of the words' and this is made colourful by breaking down and colour coding different parts of a sentence. Colourful Semantics is a speech and language therapy intervention that indirectly works on developing a child's grammar through the use of Spoken sentences.

Colourful Semantics can be implemented in a 1:1 intervention or as a whole class or even school approach. The session will include an overview of Colourful semantics and practical ideas that could be taken straight back to the classroom.

All local school are welcome to send a representative, there is no charge for this session, but please let us know if you plan to attend, and bring coloured pens or pencils (orange, yellow, green, blue, brown, black, purple)
